"THE EARTH IS ALIVE"
COMING SOON!

Sazakan is an eclectic musical trio that embarks on a sonic journey filled with exciting discoveries, blending the rhythms of the world with the Anatolian melodies that inspire them, in a space where the boundaries between East and West dissolve effortlessly.

The trio, consisting of Martin Seiler (saxophone and electronics) from Berlin, Ali Deniz Kardelen (guitar and electronics) from Istanbul, and Ömercan Şakar (drums, handpan, and flutes) from New York City, emerged in 2024 as the result of an unplanned meeting. Their creative journey began with an impromptu recording session in Istanbul, which gave birth to the unique sound and vision of Sazakan.

With their upcoming album “Earth is Alive”, Sazakan harnesses the energy of nature and mythology, weaving an intricate tapestry of sound that both captivates and mystifies. The harmonious interplay of instruments such as drums, guitars, saxophones, indigenous flutes, and the handpan takes listeners on a journey where serenity and the raw power of nature intertwine. Inspired by the storm god of Altai mythology, Sazakan’s music channels the primal forces of nature while guiding the audience through an odyssey of peace, introspection, and unity.

Each track is a chapter in this journey, reflecting the complex interplay between natural elements and human emotion. The album captures the harmonious interplay of opposites—light and dark, movement and stillness, sound and silence. When all elements align perfectly, the energy flows effortlessly. This recording session exemplified that harmony, and we are thrilled to share this captivating musical journey with you.

With deep rhythms, mesmerizing melodies, and atmospheric textures, Sazakan invites listeners into a world where music becomes a spiritual experience, reminding us that the ancient call of nature resonates everywhere, now.

What Is  SAZAKAN ?

Sazakan is regarded as a mysterious and powerful entity in Turkish and Altai mythology. Named after the word “saz,” Sazakan is known for the humming sound it makes, reminiscent of a murmur among the clouds. When you hear this sound, you feel an ancient call coming from the depths of nature. Sazakan’s presence is believed to be behind natural events such as hurricanes, typhoons, and violent winds. Thus, people perform prayers, sacrifices, and ancient protective rituals to appease Sazakan’s anger.

Sazakan’s influence is especially felt over mountains, forests, and water sources. In the lands governed by Sazakan, sudden weather changes and severe storms are frequently observed. There is a belief among the people that Sazakan represents the destructive force of nature and serves as a reminder for humans to show respect towards it. This mystical being emphasizes the importance of preserving natural balance and living in harmony with nature.

In mythological tales, Sazakan is portrayed as the god of hurricanes and storms. In Altai culture, the impact of wind and storms on life is profound and overwhelming; hence, Sazakan is deeply revered as the spiritual force behind these natural phenomena.

Looking at its mythological roots, we see that Sazakan is depicted similarly in various cultures. Boreas in ancient Greek mythology, representing the north winds, bears resemblance to Sazakan. Likewise, Cailleach Bheur in Celtic mythology, as the goddess of hurricanes and storms, shares similar characteristics with Sazakan.

In agricultural societies, villagers consider the sound of Sazakan as a harbinger of a bountiful harvest and abundance. Additionally, Sazakan’s protective role places it at the center of rituals performed to safeguard against natural disasters.

Even in today’s modern world, Sazakan’s protective and mystical role remains vibrant despite technological advancements. As a sacred symbol of wind and storm, Sazakan still holds deep significance in people’s lives, reminding them of their connection to the ancient forces of nature.

The mythological stories of Sazakan open a unique door for those who wish to explore the depths of Turkish and Altai culture and forge a deeper connection with the spirit of nature. Sazakan’s existence reveals how crucial it is for humans to live in harmony with nature, upholding respect and balance in their lives.
